Warhol’s Mao portraits banned from China Exhibition

The Chinese Ministry of Culture has banned Andy Warhol’s famous images of Chairman Mao from appearing in the biggest travelling exhibition of his works. The show will include more than 300 paintings, photographs and films, including Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s Soup cans, Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, as well as the 10 Mao paintings which Chinese authorities have decided to exclude.

The exhibition is part of a 26 month Asian tour to mark the 25th anniversary of Andy Warhol’s death. With 175,000 visitors in Singapore so far, the show is bound to be a success.
